Reproducing Christopher's Lion for Maddie's Auction
An artwork auction was held to raise funds for Maddie Collins, a young girl living with kidney disease. As part of the fundraiser, we reproduced an original piece of artwork, Christopher's Lion.
The story behind the painting
Client: Jan Thompson
The painting, called Christopher's Lion, was auctioned for Maddie's Auction to raise money for children with kidney disease.
In Jan's words:
"The story behind the Lion painting actually begins with my son Christopher. Christopher was born with kidney disease, and in his 28 years of life, received three living related donor kidney transplants. That in itself is rare.
My son was a talented musician and artist, and he loved drawing as much as his music. Before Christopher passed away, he was asked to draw a picture of a lion for a youth group project. The lion was to represent the strength we find through our daily challenges, the courage to face our fears, and to never give up.
Christopher had a real burden in his heart for troubled youth, and he was excited to be part of that project. Sadly, he never got to see it come to life, as he passed away shortly after drawing the lion. The image was later printed on t-shirts and given to the youth group as part of the campaign.
I was given the original drawing after he passed. When I heard about Maddie Collins and her own battle with kidney disease, I felt that Christopher's Lion had another story to tell, this time about his journey crossing over into Maddie's. It touched me deeply enough that I wanted to share it again, by recreating his lion in a more abstract style, bringing him to life with bright colour. He turned out beautiful, and carries a very spiritual message.
I've donated the Lion painting to Maddie's fundraiser auction."
What we did: We digitally printed the artwork onto an aluminium composite panel.
What they said: "I was introduced to Adgraphix, who stepped up to help put a unique spin on Christopher's Lion. It looks amazing. I know Chris would be so proud to see his Lion take on new life, for such a worthy cause to help Maddie."
