Event signage at scale for the SingularityU New Zealand Summit

We love doing event signage. Quite often we get requests that call for a bit of outside-the-square thinking, or years of experience to make an idea actually work. Sometimes what looks like a simple sign is more involved than it appears, there's often a lot to consider around the impact on the structure once it comes down again. Our depth of product experience makes this side of things easy. Here's an event we worked on at Horncastle Arena.

Event: SingularityU New Zealand Summit

The Summit's aim was to help New Zealand understand, adapt to, and thrive in an exponentially changing world. It was the first SingularityU Summit held in Australasia, bringing together Singularity University faculty alongside local New Zealand experts to explore the themes of accelerating change and how emerging technologies would impact the country. Organisers worked hard to build a diverse audience, allocating a large share of the 1400+ tickets to entrepreneurs, not-for-profits, educators, and people under 25.

What we did:

The hero pieces of signage at the Summit were two large self-adhesive prints on either side of the entrance to Horncastle Arena. A large mesh banner hung in the entranceway, alongside outdoor flags and self-adhesive graphics on the front doors. Inside, visitors were greeted with corflute cut-out shapes, display stands, posters and floor graphics, along with a very large PVC banner measuring 12m x 6m.

What kind of signage works best for a large event or conference?
A mix of scale and function tends to work best, large format banners and vinyl graphics to create impact and visibility from a distance, paired with smaller directional and wayfinding elements like corflute cut-outs and floor graphics to guide attendees once they're inside.

How large can a printed banner be for an event entrance?
Banners can be produced at large formats to suit venue scale, for example a 12m x 6m PVC banner for a stadium or arena entrance. The right size depends on the venue and the distance the signage needs to be visible from.

Can event signage be designed to be removed without damaging the venue?
Yes, this is a key consideration for temporary event signage. Materials and installation methods need to account for what happens to the surface underneath once the signage comes down.
