Our Second Latex Printer: The HP Scitex LX850

A second latex printer joins the line-up: the HP Scitex LX850
We'd like to introduce a recent addition to our line-up. HP has, in recent years, been pushing more environmentally conscious large format digital printing solutions, and one of their biggest efforts has been latex ink printers. Surprise surprise, the machine pictured above happens to be one of them.
The environment hasn't exactly been kind to us here in Christchurch lately, but we're still committed to improving our own stance towards it. The HP Scitex LX850 uses water-based latex ink, yet the finished prints hold up comparably to mild and eco-solvent in terms of scratch resistance and durability. It's our second latex machine.
Without boring you with every detail, we get high resolution prints, genuinely stunning, with brilliant colour, durable enough for both indoor and outdoor use, including vehicles. It also does a great job on fabrics, helped by its ability to image onto material up to 3.2 metres wide, that's billboard size.
Greenwashing?
We don't believe environmentally friendly hardware alone is a sellable eco solution. It's a waste of time investing in equipment like this if the company running it has poor systems behind it. As a company, we're committed to improving our environmental impact, and we try to be responsible wherever we can. We already have solid recycling systems in place, and many of our products are sourced from companies with sound environmental policies. We believe we offer a genuinely credible package, both in our company practices and our technology.
Our two latex printers now sit alongside our existing cardboard, paper, waste solvent, PVC banner, synthetic paper and corflute recycling.
FAQs
What is latex ink printing and why is it considered more environmentally friendly?
Latex ink printing uses water-based ink rather than solvent-based ink, reducing emissions and odour compared with some traditional printing methods.
Does using eco-friendly printing equipment guarantee a sustainable process?
Not on its own, equipment is one part of the picture, supporting practices like recycling and responsible sourcing also play an important role.
This is a historical post. Our printing technology and environmental practices have continued to evolve since it was written, please contact us to find out about our current equipment and sustainability approach.
