Bringing nature indoors at St George's Cancer Care Centre

The new St George's Cancer Care Centre recently opened, a purpose-built, state-of-the-art facility. We were involved in the internal fit-out, which you can see across the photos below.

Patients are greeted at the entrance by the sound of native birdsong, played through rock speakers placed in the gardens outside. That sound follows them into the building, through to the reception area, where native forest murals and specially designed lighting recreate the effect of sunlight coming through the trees. Right through to the treatment areas, there are visuals designed to occupy and calm patients and visitors as they wait.

We produced native forest scenes across multiple mediums for the project. The designs were created by Fountaine Design, with the build run by Higgs Construction. To make the most of the building's extensive glass paneling, we produced and fitted frosted crystal window film, allowing the rich forest imagery to show through clearly from both sides while still maintaining privacy where it's needed. Other areas used high performance film, matte laminated and mounted onto Customwood joinery.
